Playwas is a modular playmat designed for young children based on UNICEF’s report ‘what do you think: migrant children speaking’. In this report 170 children were invited to talk about their journey to Belgium and what it is like to live here. Based on their experiences and needs that they highlighted we got to work designing.
The number one priority for the newly arrived kids is safety so with this mat we aim to create a safe environment for children to get to know their surroundings. The barrier of language is taken away as to appeal to everyone where ever they are from or what their age is.
The kids will be able to learn about the city and get a sense of orientation as they play. All the necessities children should have acces to are displayed on the map in the form of a wooden building so they can get to know them. Our aim is for children to play like they should regardless of their background.
